Six Prevalent Sacramento Pests

Unfortunately, stinging insects such as wasps are very common in Sacramento and the surrounding areas. Although they will not automatically attack humans who come near their nests, it’s easy to accidentally agitate a nest by stumbling across it in an unexpected area.

Some of the most common locations for wasp nests include:

  • Roofs
  • Garages
  • Attics
  • Under decks
  • Inside of children’s play areas
  • Trees
  • Bushes

Of course, these are by no means the only locations in which you might stumble across a wasp nest — part of what makes them so dangerous is the fact that they can (and often do) nest wherever it’s convenient for them.

If you notice that wasps are flying around your property or are gathering near a certain location, it’s best to call your local pest control company instead of attempting to find and destroy the nest yourself.

Approximate 600,000 U.S. homes sustain termite damage each year to the tune of $5 billion, or more! Termite damage can be significant anywhere it occurs, but it can be catastrophic in locations such as Sacramento in which property values are much higher and more desirable than other locations around the country. When you consider that termites are often difficult to spot until they’ve already done significant damage, it becomes clear that they’re easily one of the most destructive and problematic pests in our area.

At Noble Way Pest Control, we believe that the best defense against termites is a strong offense. We recommend scheduling regular home inspections as well as keeping an eye out for the following signs of a termite infestation:

  • Hollow-sounding wood
  • Damaged and/or peeling paint and wallpaper
  • Small amounts of excrement that looks like sawdust
  • Mud tubes leading to and from your property
  • Wing sheddings near windows, vents, and doors
  • Warped floor

In contrast to termites, silverfish aren’t an immediate threat to your property. These silver-colored insects often hide in damp, dark locations such as basements, crawl spaces, attics, and bathrooms. They can survive weeks at a time without food, and they’re known to destroy wallpaper, books, and other paper items when feeding. They also commonly feed on clothing and baking staples such as flour and oats.

Though silverfish aren’t a threat to health or safety, it’s important to contact a professional pest control company if you discover them in your home or business. If they’re inside, it means that they’ve likely bred and that other pests may have made their way inside as well. Instead of treating the symptoms of the problem and simply exterminating them, Noble Way will find and address the source of the infestation, ensuring that they don’t return.

There’s almost nothing worse than discovering a cockroach in your home or business. Not only do you immediately know that you have a health and safety hazard on your hand — you also know that there’s more where that came from, too. California’s climate is hospitable to a number of different cockroach species, and they thrive in moist, dark areas such as under kitchen sinks, inside of cabinets, and in basements and crawl spaces.

Cockroaches are dangerous pests that need to be addressed as soon as possible. The debris they leave behind (shells, saliva, and droppings) can have negative effects on people with asthma, and they can also carry a number of different diseases and bacteria.

If you’ve discovered a cockroach (or more) in or around your property, we highly recommend contacting our exterminators as soon as possible for a free inspection.

Ants aren’t a health hazard in the same way that cockroaches are, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t important to treat an infestation as soon as possible. Sacramento is home to several different kinds of ants including Argentine, pharaoh, pavement, and carpenter.

If you have ants in your home or business, it’s important to understand that you’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg (or in this case, colony!). Ants are not independent pests, and if you see them scurrying throughout your property, it’s a safe bet that there’s many, many more than you can see. Our pest control experts take a holistic approach and treat both the symptoms and the source of the problem, ensuring that the ants won’t return once we’ve left your home.

Bed Bug

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are easily one of the most notorious pests we treat. These hitchhiking insects are often found in hotels, motels, offices, theaters, and many other popular locations. It’s a common misconception that bed bugs are only found in dirty or unkempt areas — they can thrive as long as they have access to a food source, and their small size makes it difficult for even the most diligent cleaning crews to eliminate them.

Bed bug treatment is one of the most common services our pest control company provides, so we recommend that you watch for the following symptoms of an infestation:

  • Itchy skin with raised, red bumps
  • Small blood stains on pillows and sheets
  • Small eggshells and skins on the floor
  • A foul, musty odor near the bed

If you do discover that bed bugs have made your home their own, contact our team immediately for treatment!
